From Andrea
The Excursion week reminded me of Road rules, I kind of felt like a Rock Star. We were at top hotels and carrying our luggage from place to place. I wasn't`t thrilled about our night in MarraKesh, I had fun all day but the night life was different. There were a lot of people in the Souka (Market) and it looked like there was a festival going on, but that was just a normal night. A lot of beggars approached me when I was eating, so I was very uncomfortable, all in all though, Marrakesh was GREAT! I have to say Marrakesh and the time on the road were my high lights during the excursion, I had a really good time.

For me dealing with beggars in developing countries is always an important part of the travel experience. In the U.S. it's a lot easier to dismiss street people and pan-handlers because there's a sense that they're not begging for their very lives. But when whether or not a starving person eats that day depends on my pocket change it require a lot of self-reflection. In India I had to deal with beggars constantly, some of them in very dire situations, and some viewing me like an ATM machine to be tapped for all it's worth. In those moments I reflect on the very real possibility I can change someone's life that day , or that on a philosophical level it's like spitting in the ocean, no matter what I do there are more people starving everyday than any one person could possibly help. In the end I have to remember my choice is about me and if I give them anything I'm ultimately doing it for my sake not theirs.
